The major wine region in Tuscany is of course Chianti and its subzones, but in fact there are a handful of other zones with DOCG status, plus over 30 other Zones accorded DOC status.
Many other wines are produced outside these official classifications, either because they are made from grapes grown outside the specified area or with grapes of a non-approved variety.
